New Life – a highly ambitious project with a sense for traditions
The stately building known as Ekenäs Badinrättning, the Ekenäs bathing facilities, was completed during the year 1903. In April 2020 the whole premises Gamla Bastun including several old buildings was sold in a public auction to entrepreneur and real estate developer Mr. Matti Laamanen.
His whole real estate development project is nothing less than truly ambitious in many respects: among others, the idea is to contribute to the continued growth of Ekenäs/Tammisaari to become as attractive a destination as possible for visitors.
The total property consists of, apart from the lot and the red brick main building (GB1), a newer sauna building (GB2) stemming from 1969 (known also as the Nya Bastun) along with a wooden residential building built in the 1920s (GB3), a house that is situated along the Sjöformansgatan street.
The renovation of the whole property will be completed thoroughly, without rushing and constantly bearing in mind the respect for the proud history of the setting. The work started on the GB3, in which building two apartments will be completed during the summer of 2023. The whole property will include a total of eight apartments among which there are flats for both tenants and for owners.
On the side of the Nya Bastun the plan is to offer all of the dwellers at the Gamla Bastun their own sauna department, while another sauna complex is to be rented featuring its own Bath Relax room. To the business spaces on the street level a café, a wine bar as well as an antiques shop have been planned.
On the seaside along with the Västvallen street the plan is to construct a conservatory-kind of terrace space according to the British style.
On its street level the Gamla Bastun building is ideally suited for housing an antique shop – an idea that has already been thoroughly discussed and negotiated with an established entrepreneur in the field.
